Resumen:
Background: Lactobacillus casei CRL431, Lactobacillus paracasei CNCM I-1518, and their cell walls (CW431 and CW1518, respectively) improves innate immune response and exert an immunomodulatory effect in healthy mice. The aim of the current study was to determine whether CRL431, CW431, CNCM I-1518, and CW1518 act as a potential mucosal adjuvant of S. Typhimuirium attenuated by heat-shock (HSST), and would be able to protect healthy mice against a lethal oral challenge with Salmonella. Methods: BALB/c mice received during 7d probiotics supplementation. Intragastrically sensitized with HSST were performed during 3 spaced days. After 3-wks a group (SG) was challenged with invasive Salmonella (109 CFU/mL), another group received probiotics supplementation again during 7d, at the last day was sensitized with once dose of HSST, and after 7d were challenged with Salmonella (rsSG). Control groups (CG and rsCG, respectively) received the same treatment without challenged with the pathogen. Translocation of microorganisms was evaluated. The immune response was determined with in vivo and in vitro assays. Results: After probiotic supplementations, not showed increases of CFU/g of organs compared with infection groups (p
