Resumen:
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a T cell-mediated autoimmune diseasethat destroys the insulin-secreting -cells of the pancreas. It is now possible to predict those candidates that willprogress to T1D before the full onset of the disease. Preventionof uncontrollable autoimmunity against -cells in therapiesfor T1D is mandatory to preserve the -cell mass. Therefore, immunomodulatory strategies directed to inhibitingthe activity of self-reactive T cell clones as well as inductionof regulatory T cells would be beneficial for preventionof T1D or recurrence of -cell autoimmunity against islet cellallografts.
