Resumen:
In this work, a new structured linoleic-basedhydroxytetrahydrofuran (HTHF) ester lubricant with excellent properties wasdeveloped. A synthesis route through regioselective enzymatic hydration, combined with high selective epoxidation and intramolecular epoxidering-opening rection was developed. The results proved that theenzymatic-chemical method was an alternative strategy for the conversion oflinoleic acid into bio-lubricant. LiBr was revealed as an efficient catalyst(yields of 95.8 %, and selectivity of 98.5 %, respectively) for theintramolecular epoxide ring-opening reaction. The tribological properties testindicated that the HTHF-esters lubricant exhibited better performance than thecommercial mineral oils. Physicochemical investigation further indicated thatthe product has a good thermal stability, with the T onset around 300 °C. Thekinematic viscosity and viscosity index indicated that the product was suitableto be applied for lubrication. In contrast with previous findings, this HTHF-structuredbio-lubricant oil exhibited a superior low pour point (-64 °C),and provided great potential to be utilized in extreme cold working environment
