Resumen:
Different fish species are considered an excellent experimental model to evaluate acute and chronic toxicity of substances that are exposed to in theenvironment. Fishes could be used to test toxicity of natural or syntheticcompounds in the laboratory. There are many fish species approved byinternational organisms to use in research, currently zebra fish model (Daniorerio) is widely used to test toxicity by analyzing the mortality of the specimens. In addition, zebra fish embryos could be employed and are a powerful modelbecause they present several advantages: low cost of maintenance, less space, time and compound quantity. The aim of this work was optimize theexperimental conditions to obtain zebra fish embryos to perform toxicity assaysfollowing OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development)methodologies. Our results show that the optimal conditions are 2:1 male-female relationship, 24h of contact time, 24°C temperature, 12h of light hoursand posture system for management of embryos. In the same way, the age ofthe reproducers, the previous separation of the reproducers and thedetermination by observation of the fertilized embryos have been determined as"critical" of the methodology to be used. For statistical studies the n used was 3embryos; the chi-square method was used in order to compare the mortalityvalues for different concentration of the same drugs, and the nonparametricStudent test was used for comparisons between different mortality values fordifferent drugs.
