This article discusses the vulnerabilities and risks present in the forms of access to housing and energy in shantytowns and settlements in the province of Salta, Argentina. It explores some aspects of the conditions in which care tasks are carried out, such as safe access to energy infrastructures. To this end, the conceptual category of care thresholds is used to show that, in the face of minimal infrastructural conditions, the demands, requirements and risks for caregivers increase. The paper problematises and analyses these scenarios through the concept of energy security/insecurity. It mainly uses newspaper articles from the period 2012-2024 that refer to fires in private homes, deaths by asphyxiation, carbonisation and electrocution as a result of unsafe access to energy.
