Resumen:
The decoction from Baccharis grisebachii is used as a digestive, to relieve gastric ulcers, cicatrizing and antiseptic in Argentine. Alyophilized decoction (LD) from the aerial parts was evaluated regarding their anti-ulcer, antioxidant and cytotoxic activities, and UHPLC-MS metabolome fingerprinting. The antioxidant properties were assayed by DPPH, TEAC, FRAP and lipoperoxidation inhibitionin erythrocytes methods, and the antibacterial activity according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) guidelines. TheLD showed a moderated free radical scavenging activity in the DPPH assay (IC 50 = 106 µg/mL) and inhibited the lipid peroxidation inerythrocytes (in a 67%, at 250 µg/mL). At a dose of 750 mg/kg, the LD had the highest gastroprotective effect with a ninety-threepercent93% inhibition of damage through a mechanism that involves NO and prostaglandins using the rat model of ethanol-induced gastricdamage. On the other hand, LD does not induce cytotoxic changes on human tumor and no-tumor cell lines at concentrations assayed. Thirty-one compounds were detected and identified based on the UHPLC OT-MS including, nine correspond to flavonoids, thirteen tocaffeoyl-quinic acid derivatives, three to coumarins and three to other different phenolic compounds. The results support that Baccharisgrisebachii decoction is a valuable natural product with the potential to improve human health.
