The study of language acquisition in preterm children is a current topic of research. The use of the CDI has contributed a lot to this boost.Previous studies have indicated that preterm children tend to show slower linguistic development than fullterm children. Particularly preterm children:With very short gestational age (Foster-Cohen et al., 2007; Kern & Gayraud, 2007) (but see Stolt et al., 2007, Jansson-Verkasalo, 2003, and Sansavini et al, 2006).With very low birthweight (Stolt et al., 2009; Ortiz-Mantilla et al., 2008)Differences may appear first in receptive vocabulary and not in expressive vocabulary or grammar.
