The population of preterm children is not a homogeneous group. Important differences exist among them. Preterm (PR) children are classified according to gestational age (GA) into: Moderately preterm and late preterm children: GA 32-36 weeks (80% of the PR population). Very preterm children (VPR): GA between 28-31 weeks (15%)Extremely preterm children (EPR): GA below 28 weeks (5%).There is a correlation between GA and birth weight (BW): the shorter the GA the lower the BW.
