To prepare a working paper on "Smart Cities for Sustainable Development". The paper will explore the benefits, challenges and possible routes for Smart City Innovations to further sustainable development objectives in different local situations including institutional, socio-economic, political and cultural environment.In particular the paper will:a) include the findings of research and policy literature, as well as interviews with experts and practitioners who advance the Smart City concept in various sustainable development contexts, with a focus on, but not limited to, developing countries (DC)b) identify, describe and analyze a set of cases where smart city innovations are employed in different sustainable development situations c) build an inventory of (i) key smart city implementations on DC and (ii) actors involved in smart city implementations and research in DCd) propose and justify a set of policy alternatives and related research questions to inform the choice of different policy options, that should be addressed in near- to medium-term in order to advance sustainable development objectives through Smart City innovations
