Resumen:
Non-mammaliaform cynodonts are an important component of Triassic Gondwanan faunas, where frequently they are one of the dominant groups. A summary of their record in South America and Africa during the Triassic is presented. The major diversification of this group occurs during the Carnian of South America and the Late Anisian of Africa. Informationon the number of faunas of each age and the duration (in millions of years) estimated for these faunas were integrated to the diversity values. The integrated analyses of these data indicate that the largest diversity in Africa is influenced by the abundance of faunas of Late Anisian age. The palaeogeography and palaeoclimate of the South American and African deposits containing cynodonts is also discussed.
