Resumen:
CeSb2 is a well-known layered compound showing several magnetic transitions below 16 K. LaSb2, on the other hand, shares the same layered structure and is a two-dimensional metal with a linear magnetoresistance which has been associated to some sort of charge ordering. We have synthesized the family of compounds La1-xCexSb2 with 0 < x < 1 and present here resistivity, specific heat and x-ray scattering experiments. We find a kink in the resistivity above x = 0.2, which remains until the establishment of the series of magnetic transitions of CeSb2. We conclude that substitutional disorder stabilizes a charge density wave, and that the charge order competes with magnetic order.
