Resumen:
The cultivated tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is one of the most important vegetables over the world. The fruit morphology is of great relevance for fresh and industry market. The objective of this study was to evaluate genetic parameters of tomato fruit morphology traits. In a total of 150 plants, fruit weight (FW), locule number (LN), fruit diameter (D), fruit height (h) and fruit shape index (h/D) were analyzed. The genetic parameters were evaluated from two tomato cultivars, Voyage (V) and Old Brooks (OB); the hybrid (F1VxOB); the F2 generation and both backcrosses: BC1-1 (F1xV) and BC1-2 (F1xOB). The normal distribution of the phenotypic traits was verified following the Shapiro and Wilk test. Components of the genetic variance, broad sense heritability (H2) and narrow sense heritability (h2) were estimated using the six basic generations. All traits presented a normal distribution in the F2. High values of H2 and h2 were found for all traits. The broad sense heritability reached almost 95% for all traits, indicating a low environmental component of variance. The highest h2 value was 95% for LN and the lower was 73% for h, while for D/h, D and FW was 90%, 77% and 77% respectively. These results demonstrated that a breeding program for fruit morphology attributes from the F2 population between Voyage and Old Brooks can be set up
