Resumen:
This talk will present a recently founded research centre in northern Argentina. The Centre for Electrochemistry and Evaporitic Materials from the High Andes (Instituto de Electroquímica y Materiales Evaporíticos Altoandinos), IEMEVA, is a new research centre in the province of Jujuy, jointly supported by the Argentinean National Science Council (CONICET), the National University of Jujuy, and the provincial local government.IEMEVA aims at developing into an excellence centre where in-depth fundamental research and technology development are carried out in the same premises. IEMEVA is currently focussing on three research axis: 1-New technologies for more efficient salt extraction from the brines with less environmental impact; 2-Synthesis of high value compounds from the mining materials; 3-Study of electrode processes in high capacity batteries.A new building is currently under construction. Over 3500 m2 of purposely designed laboratory facilities and offices will be inaugurated by April 2016. Laboratory equipment will include facilities for chemical synthesis and characterization, both aqueous and dry-organic chemistry, electrochemistry, surface analysis techniques, scanning probe microscopies, and isotopic analysis amongst others. A 500m2 pilot scale plant will be at the disposal of researchers for studying up-scaling of successful laboratory processes. We are currently looking for Chemists, Physicists, Engineers and related professionals. Positions are open from post-doctoral level to senior research scientist. We offer ample laboratory and office space, availability of scientific equipment, a local university as an unlimited source of master and PhD students, and the possibility to become a permanent research fellow of the Argentinean National Science Council. We are also searching for academic and industrial collaborators and we will be happy to discuss any prospective research projects.
