Resumen:
The description, analysis and applications of Reflectance Spectroscopy in ultraviolet, visible and infra-red regions of the electromagnetic spectrum are reviewed. A comprehensive introduction is given to address the theoretical basis for the analysis of reflected light from scattering materials. Differences between specular and diffuse components are presented and discussed in terms of particle size. The Kubelka Munk theory, the Remission Function and the Pile of Plates model are also introduced and the calculation of absorption and scattering factors is presented. The obtention of chromophore concentrations from reflected light is also shown and several examples are given. Steady?state Reflectance, FTIR Reflection techniques and Time Resolved Reflectance spectroscopies are discussed and the equipments are described in detail. Applications in remote sensing, in plant physiology, in soils science, in diseases diagnostics as liver pathology and neonatal jaundice, in detection of tissue oxygenation, in ecological studies for prediction of the composition of plants and animal tissues, in the study of cultural heritage objects, among several others are also reviewed.
