Resumen:
tical Medical Anthropology: Perspectives in and fromLatin America edited by Jennie Gamlin, Sahra Gibbon,Paola M. Sesia, and Lina Berrio showcases the rich andlong history of Latin American critical medical anthropology (CMA), in an attempt to decentralize the ?anglophone-dominated academic world.? The editors aim tobring ethnographic contexts and CMA theories in LatinAmerica to an English audience. The book contributorsare from Latin America, the United Kingdom, and theUnited States of America, and some of their work hasnever been published in English. Comprised of 10 chapters organized in three sections?intercultural health, effects of globalization in Latin America and on its borders, and political economy?the book examines currenthealth challenges from critical and structural perspectives specific to the region to engage both contemporaryand emerging areas of CMA research. Particularly, thebook focuses on health issues around susto (Mexico &Peru), obstetric violence (Mexico), abortion (Peru),HIV/AIDS (Mexico-Guatemala border), drug use(Mexico-USA border), chronic diseases and transplants(comparative work in Mexico/United Kingdom), and rarediseases (Brazil)
