Resumen:
The Delta of Llobregat (Catalonia, Spain) is one of the main central areas of the Metropolitan Region of Barcelona; a large productive open space, of about 90 km2, located at the south of the Catalan capital. However, in the last three decades, several industrial activities occupied part of the agricultural area. Now, this territory is characterized by the increasing specialization of its different elements. Among the main consequences of the specialized and fragmented use of the Delta of Llobregat, we should emphasize, in ecological terms, the increasing salinization of aquifers due to the waterproofing of the main recharge areas and its over-exploitation. These conditions constitute the core factors of the strategy for its territorial reorganization. In this paper we explore the problems and design criteria for the territorial renewal of this unique open space.
