Resumen:
Abstract. The somatic chromosomes numbers and karyotypes of two Lonchocarpus Kunth species have been studied. Both of them have 2n= 2x= 22 chromosomes. The karyotype of L. Muehlbergianus, is composed by 16m + 6 sm chromosomes and the one of L. leucanthus is formed by 14m + 6sm + 2st. Karyological data allowed to distinguish these species specially by the karyotype formula, complement length and asymmetric index.
