Resumen:
Encouraging efficiency in Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) handling is a major challenge for urban agglomerations. MSW accounts for significant public budget. Also, inadequate handling can lead to serious environmental and social problems. This research developed a multiobjective MIP model to solve the Garbage Accumulation Points Location Problem, which has a clear impact on the overall cost of the MSW system.Three objectives are considered: enhance accessibility to the system, reduce installation cost and minimize the required average collection frequency. For dealing with these conflicting goals, the augmecon method (Mavrotas and Florios, 2012) is used. Evaluation was performed for an urban area of Montevideo.
