Resumen:
The Uco Valley is located in the central west of the Mendoza province. Most of the valley lies within the upper basin of the Tunuyán river. The availability of water for agriculture and the systematization of its use make differentiate between oasis areas (irrigated) and rainfed areas. Two meetings were held at INTA?s Experiment Station La Consulta with the aim to identify critical ecosystem services in the valley, possible actions to preserve them and the locally existing constraints for this, as well. The first one gathered public institutions from the local, provincial and national levels acting in the area, while the second meeting brought together representatives of farmers, social organizations, professionals, professors and students.Ecosystem services related to water resources were identified as critical by most participants in both meetings. These services were: drinking water; regulation of the hydrological cycle; water erosion regulation, and regulation of water quality. The ecosystem services following in importance were education, culture and biodiversity.
