Resumen:
The worldwide increase in the consumption of sweet beverageshas been linked to the generation of insulin resistance (IR). In ratswith diet-induced IR, oxidative stress and chronic inflammation havebeen detected in several tissues. As an adrenocortical dysfunctionwas previously demonstrated in rats fed 30% sucrose in the drinkingwater (SRD), we analyzed the effect of HO-1 induction, an antioxidantenzyme, on functional parameters in the adrenal cortex.Rats were randomly distributed in Control and SRD-groups andtreated for 13 weeks. Some animals from both groups received hemin(15 mg/kg i.p every 48 h; H and SRDH groups) and treatmentswent on for 2 more weeks. Statistical significance of data was analyzedby ANOVA followed by Tukey?s test.Induction of HO-1 was detected in the adrenal cortex of both hemintreated groups (p
