Resumen:
Abstract The fish fauna of Patagonian lakes comprisesa small, unique group of native species andseveral exotic ones. The consequences of environmentalchanges for Patagonian fish populations varyaccording to the physiology of the species considered.Several previously predicted facts such as extirpations, extinctions, and translocations have occurredand human actions such as transport, introduction, andstocking of exotic species suggest a more complexfuture. We discuss the historical biogeography ofPatagonian freshwater ichthyofauna to help us betterunderstand their present adaptations and physiologicalecology. We also address potential interactionsbetween climate change and processes such as migration, species introductions, and invasions. There is stillmuch to learn from Patagonian fishes to comprehendhow these species will endure environmental changes.
