Resumen:
In Argentina and other countries in South America, income inequality is not the exception but the norm. Despite that, only a small part of the economic literature highlights its permanent nature. Given the complexity of the phenomenon and the limitations of traditional approaches (both theoretical and empirical), the Agent-Based Models (ABM) approach is presented as a promising alternative. The inherent possibilities of ABMs are particularly useful for understanding the emergence of complex phenomena and these models have been successfully used to explain stylized empirical facts in macroeconomic dynamics, labor markets and innovation. The paper has a twofold objective. The first consists of modeling the functioning of the labor market in order to exhibit and offer an explanation, through an agent-based model, to the problem of structural wage inequality in Argentina. The second has to do with prioritizing interrelated dimensions such as divergent trajectories of sectoral earnings rates and union conflicts, which lead to recreate the dynamics of inequality over and over, and which are not usually included in standard studies on the phenomenon.
