Resumen:
Dating violence has been extensively researched in most developed countries. This article presents rates of physical and sexual aggression and injuries resulting from dating violence, in a sample from 963 undergraduate students in Argentina with ages ranging from 18 to 25 years-old. On average, 34% of women and 22% of men physically assaulted their partner in the last twelve months, around 25% perpetrated and 38% suffered some sexual coercitive behavior from their partner, and 6% of them physically injured their partner or suffered some kind of injury. The results show little difference between the sexes, being probably the most important finding is the similar rate of physical assault perpetrated by both, girls as boys. The study explores the role of childhood victimization in dating violence. In line with international findings the results suggest that suffering childhood maltreatment increases the risk of both, being the perpetrator or the victim within dating violence. The results are compared to international studies and international surveys with similar samples. Implications for public prevention policies are being discussed, focusing in Latin-American countries where resources are limited and policies are often not based in empirical research.Nota: El abstract fue aceptado, pero el trabajo no fue presentado por falta de fondos para el viaje.
