Resumen:
As a discipline, taphonomy has grown rapidly during recent decades in southern South American archaeology. At present, it constitutes an evolving field of research, attracting the interest of a growing number of scholars. The nature of this interest has motivated the development of novel methods and techniques, many of which are still at an exploratory stage. This volume of Quaternary International contains a selection of papers presented at the symposium ?Taphonomic approaches in zooarchaeology and bioarchaeology: current problems and methods?, organized during the II Congreso Nacional de Zooarquelogía Argentina, held by the Facultad de Ciencias Sociales de la Universidad Nacional del Centro de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (May 2011, Olavarría, Argentina). This symposium was coordinated by Agustina Massigoge and Mariela E. González, and the main objectives were to offer a place to communicate recent results of tapho- nomic analyses of zooarchaeological and bioarchaeological samples, and to present and discuss new methodological strategies in taphonomy.
