Resumen:
The aim of this study was evaluate the role of bulrush Schoenoplectus californicus and catfish Rhamdia quelen as biomonitors of DDTs pollution in the Nahuel Rucá lagoon, Argentina. The pesticides p´p´-DDD, p´p´-DDE and p´p´-DDT were quantified by GC-ECD in surface sediments (SS), near root sediments, rhizosphere, roots and stems of bulrush and mesenteric fat of male catfish. The relation p´p´-DDE/ p´p´-DDT was 1 with levels of DDTs higher than SS showing an accumulation of contaminants in these macrophytes. The higher levels of p´p´-DDE with a relation p´p´-DDE/ p´p´-DDT=35 found in mesenteric fat showed the ability of catfish to concentrate and possibly metabolize DDT. These results permit consider the bulrush and the catfish like good and effective biomonitors of its environment.
