Resumen:
The article provides a case of study of the numbness genocide engendered in bystanders in the city of Rosario, Argentina, as the witnessed the abductions, forced disappearance, and killings of their neighbors. It elaborates on a theme repeated in the literature on genocide, which is the role of collaborators and the apathy of bystanders and uses a situation that arose during the dictatorship between 1976 and 1983, in Rosario, Argentina. It concludes with an analysis not only of how terror was systematically constructed, but also of how people´s memories of horror and violence were erased by collective fear.
