Resumen:
Black-capped Piprites Piprites pileata is a globally Vulnerable species endemic to the Atlantic Forest of south-east Brazil and the province of Misiones in Argentina. In Argentina, it was known only from a specimen collected at Tobuna in 1959 until, in 2006, it was rediscovered nesting in Yaboty Biosphere Reserve. This area holds at least six territories of Black-capped Piprites, all of them confined to a narrow band of Ocotea pulchella forest along the banks of Arroyo Paraíso. These sites remain legally unprotected from logging, although the proposed Caá Yarí Provincial Park would protect part of this key area. Black-capped Piprites is Critically Endangered in Argentina. To preserve the only known sites for Black-capped Piprites in Argentina, we recommend a moratorium on logging in Ocotea pulchella forest along Arroyo Paraíso in Yaboty Biosphere Reserve.
