National statistical systems are a crucial part of the state apparatus. They contribute to the collection of information than is then used to elaborate a wide range of policies. Statistical agencies began to be established in the nineteenth century. National trajectories varied, however. The event focuses on the origins of national statistical systems in Argentina, Canada, France, Great Britain and Mexico in a comparative perspective.
