Conceptualizaciones de estudiantes universitarios de ciencias experimentales sobre gráficos

A first exploratory study about graphs as a particular type of external representation is presented in this work. Twenty-seven freshmen students of Pharmacy and Biochemistry responded an eight questions quiz about graphs’ conceptions and applications. The results show that representations, Cartesian graphs and illustrations are the main conceptualizations about graph. In addition, there remain some difficulties in concept definition. Students usually regarded graphs as an important topic in the university context. Finally, it is necessary to increase research on graphics to learn about the conceptualizations of students and their impact on learning to achieve the professional competence.
