This essay concerns a program that, since its inception in 2004, has been making the connection between science and society in cities in Argentina. The Science by and for Everyone program is aimed at the improvement of both the teaching and learning of sciences at different educational levels, using an integrated approach with an impact on the scientific literacy of the whole educational community. The program’s goals are developing in students the notion of science as a way of thinking, creating within universities a role for training in science, promoting a cooperative working environment in the teaching and learning of science, and supporting innovations in science teaching and learning.
