Resumen:
Five of the tenstrawberry cultivars (Fragaria x ananassa)currently used in Argentinawere characterized and compared by isozyme polymorphisms. The study includedthree wild species of the Rosaceae family related to Fragaria x ananassa. Isozymes analyzed were phosphoglucoisomerase(PGI), shikimic dehydrogenase (SDH), and leucineaminopeptidase (LAP). Only PGIwas useful to identify the Cartuno cultivar and differentiate it from Camarosa,Sweet Charlie, Pájaro, and Enzed Donna cultivars. The correspondence among theband patterns observed in Fragariachiloensis and all cultivars provides evidence that F. chiloensis is an ancestor to the cultivated strawberries. Bandspatterns of all Duchesnea speciesstudied were different from those observed in all Fragaria species. Our results constitute further evidence of thetaxonomic differences between Duchesneaand Fragaria genera, which wereinitially considered a single one named Fragaria.
