Resumen:
Paleoecological information about the 600-year span from the end of the Warm Period, through the Little Ice Age, into the modern period is scarce in the central Appalachians. Existing studies on plant distributions, often used in paleoecological and paleoclimatic reconstructions are, however, incomplete. Sometimes, others organisms known as NPPs are found on palynological samples in better conditions comparing with pollen grains and its value as proxies in paleoenvironmental reconstructions has been recognized. We present in this study the first results from the analysis of two columns from Rowan County, KY with emphasis on the NPPs present and its implication explaining the environment changes following the Medieval Warm Period effects on this region.
