Resumen:
Fuel cells are electrochemical portable devices that efficiently convert the chemical energy of reactants, directly into electrical energy. Unlike rechargeable batteries, fuel cells can operate continuously if the reagents are steadily provided. The fuel cell requires to be fed with high purity hydrogen properly stored in a solid structure, for example, as metal hydride, and with oxygen by forcing air circulation through the cathode. Storing hydrogen from the gaseous phase as metal hydride is a safe and efficient way for energy storage for both stationary and mobile applications. The hydrogen storage device can be charged quickly by using hydrogen generators powered with electricity generated by solar panels or wind turbines, without additional compression. Thus, the hydrogen obtained and used in this type of device is the most efficient and less polluting fuel that exists. In this work, the behavior of an integrated system consisting in a low pressure hydrogen generator and a hydrogen storage device is studied.
