Resumen:
Structural characterization of the Cacheuta-Tupungato sub-basin from the occidental sector of the Cuyo Basin. This paper characterizes the 3D Triassic and Plio-Holocene deformation of the Cacheuta sub-basin. This sub-basin is located in the western axis of the Cuyo basin, in the Andean foreland at the transitional segment between flat subduction (north of 33°S) and normal subduction (south of 34°S). It integrates surface and subsurface data together with kinematic analysis of the main Andean structures and kinematic/dynamic analysis of meso-scale shear planes. The Andean foreland between 33 and 34°S is characterized by two Plio-Holocene stress fields coexisting side by side: a northern compressional regime and a southern strike-slip one. Our model highlighs the outstanding correlation between the morphology of the subducted slab, the spatial shift from compressive to strike-slip tectonic regime, and the southward disappear of the Precordillera. We suggest that the inversion of Triassic extensional structures, striking NNW to WNW, were reactivated during the Plio-Pleistocene in those areas with transpression to strike-slip regime, while in the compressive regime domain, they remain fossilized.
