Resumen:
Here, we have hypothesized that electrical stimulation of the primary occipital cortex triggers responses related to the conscious phosphene perception at the cortical level. Electrical stimulation was applied via a microelectrode array (Utah array, 10 x 10), implanted in the primary visual cortex of a blind subject. Perceptual responses were evaluated through electroencephalography techniques and then analyzed with measurements of event-related desynchronization, cortical interconnectivity, and empirical mode decompositions of the EEG signals. We have shown that EEG signals are reactive to phosphene perception processes in terms of energy and cortical connectivity.
