Resumen:
The recognition of the rights of nature is a debate that is taking place at present in the juridical, sociological and ethical fields. In some Latin American countries - in particular Ecuador and Bolivia - the recognition of the rights of Pachamama, Mother Earth, began in the last decade in the context of constitutional and legal reforms. This process is articulated with proposals presented as alternatives to global capitalism that are especially related with indigenous people´s worldviews and known as "Buen Vivir" or "Vivir Bien". This article aims to explore these experiences presenting the constitutional and legal recognitions as well as the first judicial claims. Finally, a number of challenges for socio-legal research are identified not only considering these cases but also the proliferation of cities and provinces that have begun to recognize rights to nature in different countries of Latin America. // La revista Latin American Perspectives se encuentra indizada en en Scopus, Social Sciences Citation Index, International Bibliography of Social Sciences, Periodicals Index Online, ABI/INFORM, American History and Life, Public Affairs Index, Geobase, Historical Abstracts, MLA-Modern Language Association Database, PAIS International, Political Science Complete, Sociological abstracts, Worldwide Political Science Abstracts.
