Resumen:
In recent years, grew the interest in knowing the chemical composition of algae for their nutritional and health benefits and how seaweed could they are cultivated. Many species Leathesia collected from nature have pharmaceutical properties such as, antitumor, antiviral, antioxidant and cytotoxic activity. Accordingly, their culture under controlled conditions is fundamental for the sustainable maintenance of natural populations. In this study, not only was analyzed the economically important biochemical constituents of L. marina (organic matter, total carbohydrate, protein content, pigments, polyphenols, antioxidant activity and elements composition), but also the best culture development conditions of sporophytic and gametophytic phases, evaluating the effects of three variables: seawater temperature, nutrient concentrations and incubation time. In that way we evaluate the abiotic conditions best fit for the growth, control the fertility on gametophyte and their long-term storage. The chemical composition of L. marina sporophyte varied according methods of extraction used. Its showed relatively low carbohydrate and protein content, but showed high polyphenols content and good antioxidant activity. In the cultures experiments was observed the zygotes and spores densities were significantly influenced by nutrient concentrations. The optimal conditions for gametophytes and sporophytes phases were at 8°C and at 1 PES, but the growth the sporophytes was greater than gametophytes and the survival of these later was greater than sporophytes . The gametophytes could be maintained in latency under controlled culture conditions for long time (18 months). The gametogenesis suppression process was observed at 8°C, in12:12h L/D regime. In this study we emphasize the need for knowledge of physicochemical composition for use in the industry and know of the optimal conditions of L. marina culture in order to establish a adequate and controlled population management.
