Resumen:
Normally, persons know what they are thinking about, feel or pursue. The notion of first-person authority, which has been the topic of much debate in recent discussions of self-knowledge, address this issue. It refers to that authority that we enjoy in beliefs about, and knowledge of certain of our mental states. The mental states in question are beliefs, other propositional attitudes and certain sensations. Common examples of first-person authority are such pieces of knowledge expressed in the following utterances: “I am thinking about my wife”, “I hopde my favourite football team wins the unviersity league”, “I am worried about Amanda”, “I have a headache” or “I believe that investing money in the steel industry produces excellent profits”. This paper analyses the authorship approach in relation to this problematic. It shows its limitations and proposes a reconstruction of such approach in terms of the notion of practical knowledge.
