Resumen:
Thirty-eight terpenoid compounds, present in the essential oils of South-American species of Conyza Less. (Asteraceae: Astereae): C. albida Wild., C. bonariensis (L.) Cronq., C. blakei Cabr., C. sumatrensis (Retz) E. Walker and C. primulaefolia (Lam.) Cuatr. & Lourteig, separated and characterized by GC-MS and Retention Indices, were used in a numerical taxonomic approach in order to analyse the possible chemosystematic significance of these characters. Results indicate the affinity in the cluster C. albida – C. sumatrensis – C. blakei – C. glandulitecta in relation to the compounds analysed as well as monoterpenes or sesquiterpenes separately, give similar phonetic dendrograms, witch in turn agree with the one obtained using morphological characters in classic taxonomic treatments. In addition, the simplified compound profiles of some species. (e.g. C. primulaefolia) can be explained as derived characters when associated with cytogenetic and morphological ones. Thus, essential oil composition may be used in further taxonomic and applied concerning this complex genus of Asteraceae.
