Resumen:
Naturally occurring specimens of Pleurotus cornucopiae collected in Argentina were evaluated for the presence of mevinolin, a compound used as a pharmacological agent to lower the level of cholesterol. Methanolic extracts of lyophilized basidiomes were analyzed by normal and reversed phase thin layer chromatography. The compound was found in concentrations lower than 100 mg per g of dry tissue. This value is lower than those reported for other species of this genus, such as P. ostreatus, P. sapidus and P. saca.
