Resumen:
The best conditions for the formulation of a veterinary product containing plant extracts, other bioactive compounds and beneficial microorganisms were evaluated. For that, technological studies for biomass production are required; thus Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. delbrueckii CRL 1461, a beneficial bovine vaginal strain, was evaluated in 18 different growth conditions in a complete factorial experimental design of 2x32 including two basal culture media (LAPT and MRS without sugars), three combinations of sugars and three initial pH. The highest biomass was obtained in LAPT glucose or LAPT glucose + lactose and the optimal growth rate was found in glucose-containing media at pH ≤6.5.In a second stage, the effects of plant extracts and other bioactive compounds on L. delbrueckii CRL 1461 kinetics growth were evaluated. Inulin reduced the lag-phase; and Matricaria chamomilla extract decreased biomass and extended the lag-phase while Centella asiática extract and Árnica montana L (oil extract) did not affect the CRL 1461 viability. These results lay the foundation for a veterinary sustainable product to prevent metritis in postpartum cows and preserve the animal fertility.
