Resumen:
The social construction of young people?s careers is the result of complex interaction both at a structural and macro-social institutional level as well as a micro-social institutional and individual level. One of the most interesting debates relating to this refers to the way the different structural, institutional and individual dimensions link with each other, and also the strength of the impact of each one on this process. In the framework of a research project, this paper starts off with a specific question which refers to how work training programmes impact in young people?s careers who have completed compulsory secondary school education and who come from low social backgrounds. The study covers the suburbs of the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina. The initial labour trajectories of young people who have attended different training programmes are compared and it is analysed whether or not they have achieved better inclusion (than what could have been predicted) from a social or work point of view.
