In this work sufficient conditions for assuring local persistent excitation for identification of a large class of nonlinear model structures were found. These are of algebraic in nature and simple to check on-line. A connection of the selected cost functional and the convexity properties was put into the frame of these conditions. The potential benefit of these conditions mainly reclines in the design of input signals for system identification. A methodology is outlined for input design for a class of piecewise constants time functions resulting in a quite simple generator of persistent excitation. Two examples are drawn out to show the features of the results in the application.
