Morphology and Electrochemical Response of LiFePO 4 Nanoparticles Tuned by Adjusting the Thermal Decomposition Synthesis

Resumen:
Development of nanostructured electrodes forapplication in Li-ion batteries implies the control of particlemorphology and size distribution. Using the high-temperaturethermal decomposition synthesis for different temperaturesand changing the reactant concentration, we obtained highlycrystalline LiFePO4 nanoparticles with different morphologiesand mean size. Our results show that an increase of thetemperature produces an increase in crystallinity and size ofthe particles, whereas an increment in reactant concentrationgenerates a slightly increase of the particle size withoutchanges in morphology. The electrochemical capacity ofannealed samples is enhanced for those synthesized at highertemperatures, indicating that changes induced by changing the synthesis temperature, as for example differences in themorphology of the particles, are important.
