Descripción:
The objectives of this study were to assess differences in growth and productivity between Douglas-fir Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) and western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla (Raf.) Sarg.) growing both in pure and mixed plantations across a wide range of planting densities. Two type III installations, each consisting in a set of monocultures and 50/50 mixtures of Douglas-fir and western hemlock, were studied at two locations on the Olympic peninsula in the state of Washington. This research examinedgrowth and yield performance for the first 12 growth seasons after establishment at three density levels (200, 450 and 700 TPA).
