Resumen:
In a concise ten chapters, this book presents a comprehensive review of the current state of knowledge on the flora, fauna, ecosystem functions, and management issues of the coastal marshes in Australia, and calls attention to significant gaps in relevant information. It is a highly enjoyable text, with plenty of interesting aspects for the specialist, but also for lecturers and students. Also for scientists initiating work on saltmarshes there are useful boxes in eachchapter describing state-of-the art, realistic and lowcost field methodologies for the determination of key parameters relevant to the content of the respective chapter. A further factor contributing to a fluent and interesting reading is the inclusion of new information and its discussion and comparison with pioneer work in Australia or other countries, mostly the USA or Europe. At the same time the urgent need for bringing to light similar works from Asian?Pacific ecosystems is indirectly signaled; more comparisons of Australian saltmarshes to those from this region are necessary.
