Resumen:
This study focuses on an approach to the process of deterritorialization of the cultural heritage of the Huarpe communities through the analysis of the handicrafts making practices. Settled in the desert of northeastern Mendoza (Argentina), this issue is set forth in the framework of the opportunities that could be present for peripheral regions in globalized contexts. Consideration of deterritorialization processes cannot be reduced to extreme opposing views of their positive or negative aspects. Deterritorialization can be capitalized in favor of heritage and territory as a diffusion strategy for both. Revaluation of the cultural heritage, particularly of handicrafts in the frame of local development, requires the necessary articulation of public policies in the areas of culture and tourism, in order to promote and encourage the synergies emerging from this heritage in the context of production.
