Resumen:
The Río de la Plata and its Maritime Front (RPMF) are included of the Large Marine Ecosystem (LME) of South America’s southeastern continental shelf. The region is also one of the world’s major river and fluvial-marine systems. In its entirety, this ecosystem receives drainage from the second largest basin of South America (La Plata Basin). The Rio de la Plata and its Maritime Front have many tributaries that influence water quality. The major tributaries are the Parana and Uruguay Rivers and other smaller basins and tributaries on Argentina and Uruguay coastal’s. The Parana and Uruguay Rivers and their tributaries contribute to different degrees to xenobiotics, nutrients, heavy metals, PCB´s, hydrocarbons and other organic compounds in the watershed. In this chapter are presents a review of information on pollution assessment in different environmental matrixes (water, sediments and biota) in RPMF (coastal areas and common area).
