Caracterización de materia orgánica natural en un río serrano de Córdoba y su relevancia en el proceso de potabilización

Resumen:
The characterization of natural organic matter (NOM) in drinking water sources is key to optimizing itsremoval through chemical coagulation, reducing the formation of potentially harmful disinfectionbyproducts (DBPs). In this study, the composition of NOM was analyzed in water samples from the IchoCruz River, located in Córdoba Province, Argentina, collected during a sudden flow increase event (flood)in the summer of 2022-2023. The following parameters were measured: temperature (14.5 ± 1.5 °C), truecolor (52 ± 9 UC), apparent color (126 ± 48 UC), alkalinity (7 ± 4 mg CaCO₃/L), turbidity (5.2 ± 2.0 NTU),pH (6.8 ± 0.3), conductivity (27 ± 9 μS/cm), and dissolved organic carbon (DOC 6.1 ± 1.9 mg C/L). TheSUVA₂₅₄ index (3.7 ± 1.0) indicates that the river water contains hydrophobic, aromatic, high-molecular-weight NOM, which has a high potential for DBPs formation. Consistently, indices obtained throughfluorescence spectroscopy reveal high humification (HIX > 4) and a high content of degraded material (BIX< 0.6). Raman spectroscopy identified fulvic acid and humic substances using different treatments. Thisstudy contributes to the understanding of NOM composition in Argentina and provides valuableinformation for optimizing drinking water treatment management in the region
