Resumen:
Age Comparision Between Prof. Dr. Rómulo Lambre Collection and the death data of ArgentinaThe osteological collection Prof. Dr. Rómulo Lambre comprises 230 both sexes human skeletons of known ages. Those remains were provided to the School of Medicine of La Plata by the La Plata County Cemetery. The construction of any osteological collection may be biased in the sample composition. The variables that may be bias the collection start at the moment of the death, with the decision in the manner of tretas the body, the place chosen to burry the death, and persoal or familiar claims. Our aim was to determine if those variables bias the collection age distribution, confronting that with the information about the deaths ocurred in the whole country. Since 195 was the year most represented in our collection, the same year of the national survey was chosen to confront our sample. To make comparisions we discriminated 10 age groups (0-11 month, 1-4 , 5-14, 15-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 65-74, 75-+ years). After that we calculateed how many individuals of our sample were in each group, and finally we compared this information to data from the Statistics and Information Direction of the National Health Ministry. The results showed a similar distribution for both groups under study, so we could conclude that our collection reflects the mortality of the country.
